Dream It, Be It

Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls will help girls grow up to be strong, successful, happy adults. Dream It, Be It targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. It provides girls with access to professional role models, career education and the resources to live their dreams.

Soroptimist clubs will work in partnership with girls in small groups or a conference setting to provide them with the information and resources they want and need to be successful. The topics covered include career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success and how to move forward after setbacks or failures.

Since 1972, 1736 Family Crisis Center a private non-profit multi-service center has been responding to the growing needs of victims of domestic violence, runaway and homeless youth, homeless families, unemployed adults and youth, homeless veterans and their families and other low income community members in need of assistance. This is the only program that takes in male youths to the age of 18.

The members of SILA has been a continuing contributor to this program.

SILA members volunteer twice a year at Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles. We don our SILA aprons, hair nets or hats and arrive at 6:30 a.m. to cook breakfast from scratch for the Center’s clients. Through the years we have prepared quiches, frittatas, breakfast burritos and French toast. The ladies are always so complimentary of the meal and grateful for our service. We have decorated the tables and donated personal hygiene products and cosmetics to the women. It is truly a rewarding experience for us.

"Clothes the Deal"” is an agency that meets the needs of Job service agencies and their clients. They provide high quality, new and recycled men's and women's professional attire and accessories for low-income job seekers. A professional image and sense of support is gained by the recipients. SILA, at least once a year, collects and donates appropriate clothing to "Clothes the Deal" to help with their efforts.
